Lewis Burn 8

Overview

New for 2019 is the Lewis Burn 8.  This 8 hour race is based on the delightful Lewis Burn trail on the south shore of Kielder reservoir.  The loop will be just under 9 miles long with plenty of flung busting climbs, interesting traverses, fast fire road sections and a few technical down hills.  No crazy rock drop offs or anything, the route is all pure xc pleasure.  Enter solo or as a pair.

As with the Osprey 12 the parking will be on the course.  To make the event work vehicles need to be car/can width only – for example long wheel base Sprinters and other panel vans are fine.  Absolutely NO oversized motorhomes, they simply won’t fit.  You probably won’t have space for any gazeebos or tents so have a plan to operate out the back of your vehicle.  The main benefit to this is that you’ll be passing your car every lap and can pop in to refuel before stomping off round the course once more.

This race is early season and with limited light the duration is a clear 8 hours. This means one thing: give it some beans!  There’s no excuse for dawdling and after the first lap you’ll have a clear idea what’s going on and how much you can give to last the distance.  With everyone else on the same track you’ll find that the atmosphere is very friendly with all riders pulling together to get through the day.  These are probably the least “racey” races you can find with a very laid back and relaxed vibe.
