Waterside Park best in North East
Northumbrian Water’s lodges and caravan park are golden.
Leaplish Waterside Park at Kielder Water, Northumberland, has been crowned Gold for ‘Best Holiday Park/Village of the Year’ at the North East Tourism Awards 2013.
The shoreline of the largest man-made lake in northern Europe is the spectacular setting for 32 luxury Scandinavian lodges and 99 touring pitches, each one boasting a panoramic view stretching over the vast lake and forest.
Since the build of the giant Kielder reservoir over thirty years ago, Northumbrian Water has led the development of Kielder Water & Forest Park as a tourist destination and in the last year, overnight stays at Leaplish Waterside Park have increased from 72% to 80%.
Earlier this year, Kielder Water & Forest Park scooped Gold in the ‘Tourism Experience of the Year’ category at the prestigious Visit England Awards for Excellence 2013.
Maxine Mayhew, Commercial Director at Northumbrian Water, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the award and very proud that our spectacular destination has been recognised at the North East Tourism awards among such top visitor attractions.
“Over the last two years we’ve made some significant improvements to our guest experience at Leaplish, the most recent being the five star upgrade to one of our lodges. Moving forward we have even more exciting developments planned, including further lodge renovations early next year where we will be working alongside talented students from Northumbria University Interior Design course.
“There are a lot of exciting things happening in the Park at the moment, from the dark skies bid where we are seeking to secure Dark Sky Park status and if successful we would become Europe’s biggest, to the growth of the art & architecture programme. Together with Kielder Water & Forest Park Development Trust we hope to continue attracting more and more tourists to the Park and celebrate our success in recognising what makes the region such a great place to visit, live, work and play.”
